
Today on February 27 in Tbilisi Concert Hall in “Philharmonic” on the national final round the song will be selected which will be sent to “Eurovision”.
The concert will be on air over GPB channel 1, live. From Georgia Sopho Nijaradze will be presented in Oslo on the “Eurovision”. Among those 6 songs which Sopho Nijaradze will present in the final round are Georgian songs and as well songs composed by foreign authors. The winner song will be revealed after the common vote of jury and TV spectators. The group of producers of the GPB selected 6 songs among 100 presented ones.
From six songs selected for the national final round 3 are Georgian.
Tina Japaridze, USA residing together with co-authors – Ben Robins and Billy Laivs presented a song “Never give in”. Tina Japaridze’s own song last year won a second place after the Island in the “Eurovision”. In the internal selection process in Germany the winner was Brendan Stoun (Besik Shpetishvili), he presented a song “Call me”.

Another unique archaeological discovery has been found in Gori district. A chapel has been discovered at the Gudabertkia old settlement in the vicinity of Gori town. The two-step building with an alter is constructed with clay.
Two cultural layers have been worked up in the territory. The upper layer dates back to the VIII-V centuries B.C. The other, lower layer is a settlement belonging to the Kura-Araxes culture or the Early trans-Caucasian culture and dates back to the III millennium B.C.

The fire is being extinguished by means of helicopters in Mestia district of Svaneti Region. The fire broke out in the mountains between the villages of Lenjeri and Latali on Saturday. It has spread on the territory of about five hectares. Two additional helicopters are expected to get involved in the process. Fire fighters hope they will be able to put out the fire in several hours.
The fire broke out Saturday evening in a mixed forest in nine kilometres from Mestia town. The place is difficult to reach, therefore, it is impossible to use fire trucks to fight the disaster. About hundred locals are on the ground, trying to stop further spreading of the fire. Reasons having caused the fire are unknown so far.

“The Georgian a and foreign artists exhibited their works at caravansary. The exhibition is called “Meeting with Pirosmani II”.
Around 20 artists exhibited their works side by side 4 masterpieces of Niko Pirosmani.
The main source of inspiration of the works were the paintings by Pirosmani.
As the organizers of the exhibition state the chief aim of Biennale is the promotion of the genuine artist.
“The foreign artists expressed their wish to participate in the exhibition. Despite the late events in Georgia they arrived in our country and thus respected the great artist Niko Pirosmani. The inspiration for each of them turned out to be this painter. This very fact makes their participation more important, “-said Gocha Gheghleuri, the painter and the head of Georgian-German society.

On 14th of October the orthodox Georgian churches celebrate Svetichxovloba . At the same time the day of the king Mirian and the queen Nana ( the first king and queen declaring Christianity as an official religion in Georgia) is celebrated. Also St. SIdonia and Abiatari are remembered on this day . As the legend says after the crucifixion the shroud of Christ went to Elioz and Longiroz who brought it to Mtskheta. Elios’ sister Sidonia embraced the shroud of Christ and died. She was buried together with it. On her grave a cypress grew.
During the reign of the king Mirian in the 4th century A.D. on the place of the cypress a church was decided to be built. One of the post of that was made of the above cypress did not obey the church builders but by the prayers of the St. Nino the pole rose on the height of 12 meters. The whole Mtskheta gathered to see this miracle. The pole was miraculous. (more…)

The exhibition of the Georgian unique treasury was held in Great Britain. Namely: at Pitzwilliams museum in Cambridge. The exhibition organized by the National Museum of Georgia , Antique research Institute of New-York and by the Ministry of Monuments Protection and Sports was launched on October 2, 2008 and it will last till January 4 , 2008. The exhibition organizers were supported by Leon Levis and Nelson funds also by the Cambridge editors house.
The Kolchian treasury, found by Vani archeological excavations kept at the National museum of Georgia was represented. The treasury consists of diadems , necklaces, rings, bracelets , beads , bronze and iron figurines.
Romans and Greeks used to call kolcheti “ rich in gold” as the famous myth of Jason, Argonauts and the Kolchian princess Medea is connected with this land. The archeologcal excavations has long proved the real underpin of this myth. This exhibition has once more shown the kolchian civilization to the whole world.
Eqvtime Takaishvili was the first, who launched the archeological excavations in Vani. Later it was proceeded by Nikoloz Berdzenishvili and Nino Khoshtaria. Otar Lortkipanidze has been conducting the excavations more than 30 years. This time the world acknowledged Vani findings. An international congers was held in Vani and the modern type museum was established there as well.

The Times: ”The West must confront Russia to prevent another conflict from breaking out in the Caucasus, the President of Georgia has told The Times.
Mikhail Saakashvili said that elements in Russia were intent on provoking trouble in Georgia’s breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and compared Europe’s response to the failures of appeasement in the 1930s.
Georgia is threatening to shoot down Russian fighter jets after Moscow admitted that four aircraft flew over South Ossetia last week. Separatists control the region but it is recognised internationally as part of Georgia. “The situation is precarious and the things they [Russia] are doing are outrageous. Unfortunately, they are not opposed by the Europeans and other players,” Mr Saakashvili said.

The movie theater “ Sakartvelo “ rehabilitated and renovated is ready to accept the movie fans, after 15 years being functionless , the movie theatre was opened by the president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and by the major candidate of Nadzaladevi region Merab Samadashvili . the opening ceremony of the building was attended by the Mayor of Tbilisi and by other representatives of government.
“I have just past the renovated Guramishvili avenue, that was long resembling the battle field, I have also seen the green patches in the city, let’s be frank and admit that never in our city has been done so much positive deeds as at present, but at the same time I will be the first and I will say that still a lot is to be done in our city, from this view of point I should demand more and more from this city government, we should pace ahead ten times faster than today, “- commented the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.
The movie hall equipped with the modern voice system and comfort is for 160 viewers, according to the declaration of the heads of the movie theatre, one more surprise is being prepared for the children in September, the amusement center “ Komble” will start functioning in the movie theater.

The ceremony of the inauguration of newly elected President of Georgia- Mikheil Saakashvili was held in front of the Parliament. The ceremony, together with the clergy and the civilian was attended by lots of foreign guests.
Mikheil Saakashvili swore solemnly on the constitution of Georgia:
“ I, the President of Georgia, announce before the God and the nation to keep the constitution, independence and the unity of Georgia. To honestly perform the duty of the President, to care for the safety and welfare of the population of my country, to revive and to make strong my country and people”.

Tbilisi City hall congratulates “ Tbilisi Metro” on the birthday and wishes it to have tremendous amount of passengers, the first passengers traveled by Tbilisi subway on January 11,1966 and it got the reputation of ecologically pure , comfortable and safe transport , 350-400 thousand passengers utilize the Tbilisi subway daily.
